Las Vegas has been acutely affected by the economic downturn as much, if not more than most other cities in the United States. Las Vegas exemplified the economic bubble that plagued the country. It became a destination catering to visitors flush with cash and credit from inflated home equity and liberal lending. Resort developers continued to build bigger, more lavish properties to serve the unquenchable thirst for hotel rooms and casinos. As a result, Las Vegas was one of the fastest growing cities in the country as people followed the growth and newly created jobs. The real estate market exploded fueled by speculators, investors and newly arrived residents chasing the dream that the city’s growth couldn’t be stopped. Unfortunately, the Las Vegas economic bubble burst was much more pronounced than other cities with less inflated economies and real estate. Las Vegas’ house of cards finally came tumbling down hard when the Great Recession hit.
In a report released earlier this year by RealtyTrac, the Las Vegas metropolitan area suffered a foreclosure rate that was five times the national average and the highest rate in the country in 2009. Home purchase and rental prices have fallen dramatically. The gaming industry, which was once thought recession proof, has had unprecedented job cuts and lay offs. Some Casino operators such as Station Casinos have even filed bankruptcy.
Where economic blight occurs, crime quickly follows. In 2009 an annual national survey named Nevada the most crime-ridden state in the country. The authors of the study wrote “Ranked least favorably among the states was Nevada, followed by Louisiana and South Carolina.” The report went onto say that Nevada’s murder rate was “nearly seven times higher than New Hampshire’s, and the Silver State reported a rape rate that was almost 50% higher than the national average.” Last year, Forbes named Las Vegas the 4th most dangerous city in the USA.
With the crime increase in Sin City, you can bet that the Las Vegas Bail Bonds business is doing well. This seems to be the only Las Vegas business thriving during the recession. Although, business may be brisk for a Las Vegas bail bondsman, Clark County itself is having trouble keeping up. In a city that never sleeps, the court’s Pretrial Services Division at the Clark County jail will shut down from midnight to 8 a.m. That means friends, relatives and Las Vegas bail bond companies won’t be able to post bail until the morning. For someone trying to post bail for a loved one, the extra time will feel like an eternity. For a city where money talks, the collapsing house of cards means even government agencies are feeling the recessionary effects just like everyone else.

In case you have been on another planet for the last couple of months, the King of Pop is no longer with us. He passed away in his sleep by having too many prescription drugs in his system and caused his heart to stop beating. Michael Jackson’s untimely death was on the eve of his big concert tour and he died at his home in California at the age of 50. Many have compared the similarities to his death and the King of Rock Elvis Pressley’s death. It seems both entertainers were hooked on prescription drugs and both died early as a result to their drug addictions. Elvis Pressley is still very popular today and it would appear that Michael Jackson’s legacy will last just as long as Elvis’s did.
Do you plan get the new Michael Jackson movie on DVD when it becomes available? Imagine holding a Michael Jackson party with some of his classic music videos and then ending with his final event. Setting up your home theater system with surround sound and home theater seating to create that perfect atmosphere for those long time fans. Michael and his music has no boundaries because even my kids love listening to his music. If so, please come back here and leave your reviews for his last performance we will ever get to see. It was interesting that the new Jackson movie only played in theaters for 2 weeks. I’m sure all the money will be going to those that were so heavily invested in MJ and his upcoming concert tour that will not happen now. This Is It would be able to sell movie tickets to fans past the 2 week time frame they have laid out for this event. It would seem they could make a lot more money on this movie, if they would let it stay in theaters longer. Perhaps this is a well-planned out idea to surprise fans with an extra week, after the first 2 weeks are complete. Promoters may also be looking at a video or DVD deal that will sell this new MJ movie after it is done in theaters and right before the Christmas holiday shopping season.

Our blog started as a small project to capture ideas and share our thoughts and adventures on the web. Since it’s inception it has really grown and changed into a great content site, but also a great marketing and BRANDING vehicle for our other internet properties.
like mine and create a buzz about their site. The world of blogs has seen a huge change in the last year thanks in part to the new Web 2.0 platform and the fact that companies are looking to creative ways to expand their market presence. You will see that the noise level around blogs will increase for the 2008 political scene since many candidates have already contracted with bloggers to write about their campaign and issues. This is an attempt to reach out to those who would not normally turn out to vote and create the grassroots efforts.

Favorite Genesis Song
As I was mowing the yard today, I had my iPod and listening to some classic Genesis. I got to thinking “what is my favorite genesis song.”Â
It has to be “In the Air tonight”. I somehow remember when I was about 7-8 years old. I was riding in my Aunt and Unlces White Chevy Malibu traveling from Lubbock, TX to Clovis, NM. This song came on and my cousins and I were in the back, just hanging out. Things just seemed more simple back in those days.
What is your favorite Genesis Song?? Do you dare tell!
PSS: It struck me that why not create a blog dedicated to Favorites, so we will be launching MyFavoriteblank.com very soon.

You have heard the phrase” Everyone has their 15 minutes of fame” Well it seems this day to become famous, you have to marry and divorce a washed up Pop Icon, pay for monthly massages from the same sex, or meet Chris Hanson in a strangers backyard. It seems people are becoming famous for all the wrong reasons. I guess that I am equating the amount of face time someone is getting in the national press. If you really want to be famous, why not videotape your self helping out at a homeless shelter, helping your neighbor mow their lawn, and post that on YouTube. Oh thats right. we are only interested in situations that lead to destruction and harm to someone else. Will the real Greg Brady please stand UP! It is usually those that are giving back to the community, taking the time to spend time with a kid to mentor them that never get mentioned. To me those that give away with asking in return or the famous ones, even though we may have never heard of them. My hats off to people like my parents, who gave everything they had and made sacrifices so that my siblings and I could have a better life. Those are the people that should be famous in my book.

When traveling overseas it is always to take some extra precautions. Eat carefully if you’re going to a country with an increased risk of traveler’s diarrhea. Steaming-hot, well-cooked food is usually safest. Avoid eating foods from street vendors, unpasteurized dairy products, and raw or uncooked seafood. Peel fruits yourself. Drink water from commercially sealed bottles or drink carbonated beverages. Avoid ice. Use bottled water when you brush your teeth.
A great way to plan for that vacation is to view travel trailers. At World travels, they provide great video clips of vacation places across the globe. Like this great video of the Phi Phi islands set yo U2s , “It’s a beautiful day” you can sign up for free and share your videos with other travelers as well. A great resource to get a glimpse of the area that you are planning on visiting.

George is gay?
After watching last nights episode of Grays Anatomy, my wife and I were talking about the character George ( played by T.R.Knight) and my stated that he must be gay. He has had the worst luck with women, and his demeanor on the show, tended to play on the fact that he is not at all comfortable around women. This morning to my surprise it came out that in fact he is gay. So will this change the character on Greys Anatomy? Will Meredith and Dr. McDreamy ever get together. This show started off great, and like many before, are headed down the path of : Will the two ever get together, and if they do will that be the end of the show. While the on and off again romance works in the short term, it eventually runs it course, and you the shows become too predicatable.
